Gateway of India :The Gateway of India is one of the most famous monuments in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This wonderful monument of 25 metres in height, act as a starting point for the tourists, exploring the city. The Gateway of India is a mixture of Indo-Saracenic and Muslim architectural style. This monument was built in order to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay, prior to the Darbar in December 1911 during the British rule. The foundation stone was laid in 1911 and the construction of the Gateway was finished and opened on 1924, by the Viceroy, the Earl of Reading. The Gateway is built from yellow Kharodi basalt and reinforced with concrete and its cost was 21 lakhs which was bored by the Governement of India. This is one of the most fascinating monuments in Mumbai, and is one of the hot destinations for the tourist. Apart from tourist a lot of people gather at this beautiful monument to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere around it.
